DBT Skills Group

Learn the skills.

DBT Skills Group is a structured, six-month educational group focused on learning practical skills for managing emotions, tolerating distress, navigating relationships, and responding more effectively to difficult situations.

Group members learn and practice skills from the core DBT modules, with opportunities to ask questions, discuss how skills apply to everyday situations, and strengthen their ability to use them outside of group.

This is a skills-learning group rather than an open processing group. You do not need to share personal experiences in detail to participate. The focus is on understanding the skills, practicing them, and identifying ways to use them in daily life.

A good fit for people who want to:

  • Build a foundation of practical coping and regulation skills

  • Respond more effectively when emotions are intense

  • Improve communication and relationship skills

  • Increase their ability to tolerate difficult situations without making them worse

  • Develop a broader range of options for responding to problems

Applied DBT: Integration & Problem Solving

Practice using the skills.

Knowing a skill and being able to use it when life gets complicated are not always the same thing.

Applied DBT is a structured, six-month group for people who have already learned foundational DBT or comparable CBT-based skills and want support applying them to real-life situations. Rather than teaching the DBT curriculum from the beginning, the group focuses on integration, problem solving, and skill application.

Members bring current situations, recurring patterns, or problems they are working through and use the group to identify what may be happening, consider different perspectives, select relevant skills, and develop practical next steps.

The goal is to strengthen the bridge between knowing what to do and being able to do it.

A good fit for people who want to:

  • Become more consistent in using skills they already know

  • Apply DBT concepts to complex or recurring problems

  • Identify patterns that make effective responding more difficult

  • Practice collaborative problem solving

  • Turn insight into concrete action

  • Strengthen their ability to choose and adapt skills across different situations
