Understand why. Practice differently.

Professional development at NRC Praxis helps mental health professionals connect research, theory, and clinical practice so they can make more informed and adaptable decisions in real-world settings.

Our educational approach emphasizes not only what interventions may help, but why they work, how they work, for whom, and under what circumstances.

Knowing what to do isn't always enough.

Evidence-based models provide valuable tools for clinical practice. But clients rarely arrive looking exactly like the examples in a treatment manual.

They bring different identities, cultures, developmental experiences, environments, relationships, learning histories, resources, strengths, and barriers to treatment.

Professional knowledge becomes more useful when clinicians can understand the mechanisms and context underlying an intervention, rather than relying solely on instructions for how to implement it.

NRC Praxis professional development is designed to help bridge that gap.

Professional learning built for application.

Understand the

mechanisms.

Explore the neurobiological, cognitive, behavioral, and learning processes that may help explain why clinical interventions work.

Consider the context.

Examine how culture, social identity, development, environment, relationships, and lived experience can influence the way people experience and respond to mental health concerns and interventions.

Strengthen clinical reasoning.

Use multiple sources of information to develop and revise clinical hypotheses rather than treating a diagnosis or therapeutic model as a complete explanation.

Translate knowledge into practice.

Practice applying research and theory to clinical decisions, case conceptualization, intervention selection, and adaptation.

Courses & Training

Structured learning experiences help professionals develop knowledge they can use beyond a single clinical model or client population.

NRC Praxis courses combine research, clinical examples, applied activities, and opportunities for reflection to help learners move from understanding a concept to using it in practice.

Different roles. Different applications.

Mental health knowledge can be useful across many professional and community roles. NRC Praxis develops education with the understanding that people may use what they learn in different ways depending on their training, role, scope of practice, and responsibilities.

Clinicians

Strengthen case conceptualization, intervention selection, adaptation, and clinical reasoning.

Supervisors & Educators

Develop ways to teach not only what practitioners should do, but the reasoning behind clinical decisions.

Peer & Paraprofessional Workers

Build accessible knowledge about behavior, learning, stress, culture, and nervous-system processes that can inform work within your role.

Students & Emerging Professionals

Build conceptual foundations that make later clinical theories, interventions, and research easier to understand and integrate.

*Individual courses may be designed for specific audiences or require particular professional qualifications. Eligibility and intended audience are identified within each course description.

Consultation & Supervision

Sometimes the challenge isn't finding another intervention. It's making sense of the information you already have.

NRC Praxis offers professional consultation and clinical supervision designed to support thoughtful case conceptualization, clinical reasoning, and integration of research and theory into practice.

Depending on the service, consultation may include exploration of evidence-based treatment, neuroscience-informed practice, trauma treatment, cultural and contextual considerations, implementation challenges, and complex clinical decision-making.

Learning doesn't always require a course.

NRC Praxis also develops resources professionals can use independently, including research translation briefs, articles, NeuroEd materials, clinical education resources, and contributions from professionals across disciplines.

These materials are housed in our Knowledge Library and are available separately from structured courses and training.

Understanding changes what you can do with what you know.

Professional development shouldn't end with remembering information. The goal is to make that knowledge easier to recognize, question, adapt, and apply when real people and real clinical situations don't fit neatly into a textbook example.
