Carole Tshela Showell, LCSW, ACS
Carole Showell is a licensed clinical social worker, trauma therapist, clinical supervisor, educator, and researcher with more than 12 years of experience in behavioral health. She specializes in working with adults experiencing PTSD and complex trauma, dissociation, neurodivergence, emotion regulation difficulties, and other complex mental health concerns.
Carole’s approach is direct, collaborative, and grounded in understanding why patterns develop and what may be maintaining them.
Rather than relying on a diagnosis alone to determine treatment, she considers psychological and neurobiological processes alongside learning history, relationships, culture, identity, environment, and physical health to develop an individualized clinical formulation.
Her clinical training includes EMDR, Prolonged Exposure (PE), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other evidence-based approaches. She is an EMDR Certified Therapist and a certified Prolonged Exposure Therapist and Consultant, with advanced training in DBT.
Carole also incorporates neuroscience-informed psychoeducation, or NeuroEd, when it can help clients better understand their experiences. Her goal is not to reduce human experiences to what happens in the brain, but to give clients additional information they can use to understand patterns, evaluate options, and make meaningful changes.
In addition to clinical practice, Carole provides clinical supervision, consultation, and professional education and conducts research focused on neuroscience competency and the translation of mental health science into practice. She is currently completing a Doctor of Health Science degree.
